St. Agnes College Library(Under Graduate)

The library of this renowned college aims at developing a comprehensive collection of materials in the Arts, Humanities, Social Science and Science and Technology, giving vital support to teaching and research in the college. The library has grown over the years to be one of the best college libraries in the region. The library operation is computerized. There is a wealth of materials which includes over 60,000 books and print and electronic journals. St. Agnes Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research Library (Post Graduate)

The Post Graduate Centre has its own well quipped and well  and well managed library with modern  infrastructural facility. Since it is  a an extension centre of the Under Graduate library students are provided an opportunity to utilize both UG and  PG library. Library has WIFI connectivity which enables the  users to use their own Laptops within the campus. PG library has in its collection more than two thousand books and subscribes to various electronic resources through Institutional memberships. More than 6000+ e journals and  30,00,000+ e books can be accessed under The Project entitled "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)" of INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad. Resources covered through HELINET Database. of Rajiv Gandhi Health University of Health Science, Bangalore, also can be accessed.

Objectives 

• To acquire, organize, preserve and provide information resources (in a variety of formats) that adequately support the curricula of the College and Institution and the teaching and research needs of the students and faculties.

• To create an environment and provide facilities conducive to study and research.

• To provide access to the library’s collections in various formats most useful to clientele both on and off the campus.

• To incorporate new technologies for supporting the objectives of the library.

• To orient users to become fully developing lifelong retrievers, evaluators, and users of information.

• To provide services that facilitates the use of library and acquires knowledge.

Services Rendered

General Service-UG Library 

• Orientations for the First degree students are done class wise within the library premises  on various days from June to August 2012 during Value Education Class.

•  New arrivals of books and journals are displayed.

• Book jackets and information on career opportunities and other relevant information are displayed on the library Notice Board regularly.                 

• Students avail the facility of “Lending Services” (Facility to retain 2 books for the entire Semester) twice in a year.

• Refundable Caution deposit of Rs 100/- per book is charged to use reference books during the exams.

• Reprography service with reference to text books, journals, articles, magazines is made available.

• “Article Alert service” is provided on a regular basis on important topics.

• Adequate information and literature are provided to students for participating in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

• Electronic Public Access Catalogue facility is available through EasyLib Library Automation Software. 

 General Service- PG Library 

• Library Training was used to introduce the 1st Year Masters Degree students, August 14-20 2011 to the various aspects of the library resources.

• Information on career opportunities and other relevant information are displayed on the library Notice Board regularly.                 

• Day to day operation like circulation and accessioning of books through Easylib software. 

• Reprography service.

• Article Alert Service was provided on a regular basis to the students.

• Adequate information and literature are provided to students for pursuing their research in particular topic.

Special Service-P.G. 

• Institutional membership from Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre, Ahmedabad was taken and access was given to NLIST Project e –resources    (6000+ e-journals and 65000+ e-books) to the Users of UG and P.G Library. Training in accessing and using NLIST Project e –resources was given to students and staff of  M.COM and M.A.in English literature.

• Institutional membership from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore was taken and access was given to Health Science Library Network, (HELINET Database) which covers OVID and few journals from Science Direct Databases.  Training in accessing and using was given to the students and Staff members.

• Assisting students to collect the literature and Research tool for their research and project

• Guiding them in writing review of literature/writing scholarly  article for National and International Conferences.

• Guiding the students in writing Bibliography according to APA Reference style and Vancouver style.
